Blogher 09

I am going to Blogher next week.

Some of you may say "what is blogher?" or "big deal" or "lucky" or "have fun meeting a bunch of internet pedophiles". Ok, the last one is what my family said when I announced at Christmas time that I was going to a blog convention.

I am truly excited to have this opportunity to meet a bunch of bloggers in a beautiful city (Chicago) and become more blog savvy.

I was not really nervous about it until I started reading a ton of posts about Blogher and who is going to be there and all the parties that I have to sign up for before I even get there and WHAT TO WEAR.

I live on Cape Cod. The dress is CASUAL. If I happen to go to a cocktail party or dinner, I wear a cotton sundress. If I go to the beach with people I wear a bathingsuit that I can swim in, not some resort wear suit with a matching sarong. I go to the grocery store in shorts and a tshirt (ok, once and awhile pjs, but I usually throw a sweatshirt on too). Blogher, however, is a different story for the sole reason of I am going to a C-I-T-Y.

I have found that cute, cotton sundresses with fish on them do not work so well away from a beach area. I tend to kick it up a notch if I have to go "inland". Kicking it up a notch does not mean stilletos and short skirts. It just means more conservative dressing. Then I find out that 2 fashionistas, Tim Gunn and Carson Kresley, are going to be at Blogher. This has thrown me into a panic. They may as well add Stacey and Clinton into the mix.

My blog buddy, Melisa, has assured me she is going casual. What if her casual is one step short of a prom gown? I have looked at some bloggers' posts that show (with pictures) what they are going to wear. I entertained the thought of photographing my clothes to post on here to get people's opinions. Good grief! Am I in junior high again? I have decided to go with what I am comfortable in. And yes, even though I am most comfortable in my pjs, I will not embarrass my family name by wearing them to the glitzy parties. I have scoured my closet and only have gone out to buy a pair of white capris and a strapless bra at TJMaxx. Yup, I have gone all out!

So, if you see my at Blogher and want to meet me, I will be thrilled! I am who I am and I am not going to pretend to be someone else just to impress people. What I really wish is that it did not take me 42 years to figure that out!

It's a good thing you're not a kid anymore; I've heard pedophiles are attracted to children heehee. I've had a little of the same anxiety, and it's ridiculous. As long as our clothes are clean and not from 1980, I think we should be fine.

You'll fit right in. I live in Chicago and the dress is as varied as the people living here, from sundresses to pjs. I see people wearing pj bottoms as clothes all the time. My girls do it a lot. Come, have a great time, enjoy the city, walk around in your pjs.
I won't be at BlogHer. I started blogging too late to register and it was closed. I was hoping to meet some of the bloggers I read constantly, but maybe next year.

Yes, that's right, that's how we do it in/near Chicago: our "casual" dress is just like a prom gown without the shiny fabric and sequins. haha

Don't worry, I will be pretty casual during the day and slightly dressy (but not over the top) at night. I'll consult with you before packing! :)

Hey, I say be who you are - even if it is PJ's! Besides, I've met you, and you looked fabulous.

I am wearing capris and t-shirts by day, and casual dresses at night. I have a sparkly shirt for the sparklecorn party.

So if casual is wrong, I don't want to be right. You and I can find each other and laugh at all the girls whose feet are falling off in foolish shoes. :)

Her via Melisa (with one S) and looking forward to meeting you!

We just got back from our family vacation on Cape Cod (yes, and I lived to tell about it) we've been going for years.

Although, this was our first time on The Cape in 6 years.

Okay, bored yet? Good. Aaaand, my favorite flavor at Sundae School is Grapenut with burgundy cherries (can't get that here in Jersey) what's yours?

I'm new to blogher, and have been scouring the internet to see what people are wearing, and every single picture freaks me out. I'm laid-back bohemian. I am not bringing a cocktail dress, and I am not going to feel guilty about it. Hope to see you there.

I really can't wait to hear about your trip. I want to know who you meet, what you learned, what you saw, and what you ate -- in that order. Okay?

Well I certainly HOPE that you'll be excited to meet me ;) Trust me, you see everything in Chicago. And I'm going with my normal dress. If I have to walk around all day and such, I'm going to be happy and comfy. Oh, and I've yet to start packing, and I head down to the city Wednesday night. Eh, I'll live :)

I can't decide if I'm jealous of those going or not! I think I am. But all the angst about what to wear...all the stress about does-she-think-I'm-fat/too-casual/too-dressy/too-loud/too-whatever...knowing I couldn't just hide behind my keyboard...ugh...for me, virtual confidence is a whole lot different (and much easier to pull off) than running-into-someone-in-the-hotel-lobby-confidence. I dunno. I say, more power to all of you who are going. Please take copious notes and post copious posts for those of us not brave enough to attend.
