Have a Heart...

Unknown Mami
My Sundays in My City has a heart theme in honor of Valentine's Day. Thank you Unknown Mami for sponsoring this!

Our downtown area tried to drag tourists here (in the middle of winter when things are pretty quiet) so they made a big hoopla over Valentine's Day.

My girls and I hit the beach for their annual Valentine's Day photo. I have taken a picture of them around Valentine's Day every year since they were little. I included some old pictures of them in this post.

This heart is made with mermaid toenails. Yup, that's what everyone calls them because they are shiny and beautiful. (Like toenails are shiny and beautiful?)

I tried to make the girls in the shape of a heart, but it turned into a giggling fest. K made a broken heart. Bummer, right?

This is a mussel shell that I found exactly like this on the beach!

And here are my Valentine's.

Have a great day!

How to Empty Out a House

Rules for Emptying Out a House:

1. Have great, helpful friends.

2. Have your mom available to supply m&ms, hot chocolate and donuts.

3. Bring a bunch of boxes up from the basement so you don't have to freeze your ass off in the basement while you sort through stuff.

4. Laugh at your dog as she tries to get into a box full of stuffed animals. (Ok, so I can't throw anything away with a face, so I pack them in boxes and put them in the cellar.)

5. Open said box and ask your dog which stuffed animal she would like to play with. Dog not interested in taking stuffed animal, re-close box.

6. Lose patience when dog starts to rip into the box and drag it across the floor.

7. Dump box on living room floor.

8. Scream when mouse scampers toward fireplace.

9. Do not count on mom or sister-in-law to help in anyway. Actually picture them on chairs in the kitchen while you fight the little beast.

10. Thank mom when she finally hands you a bowl to capture the little bastard.

11. Fling mouse, bowl and book out front door.

12. Watch the damn mouse run back toward the house.

13. Hire moving company.

Steppin' Into the Twilight Zone....

K and I went to the Twilight Zone for an appt. today. Oh, I am sorry, I meant the ENT. As I was filling out our 32 pages of paperwork that I think asked me to give the name of my next child, if I were to have one, White Wedding by Billy Idol was playing. Not a minute into the song, a man sat down next to me who was all about the "business in the front, party in the back" hairdo. Could not have been more perfect.

When we were called back into the room, we got the last room on the right. I think this is the room for a "special" kind of people. These special people are the kind that don't complain and see the positive in everything. Yup, we passed all the high teched out rooms and got the one with the old pink chair with the rip being held together by duct tape and rust on the edges.

Thankfully, the Dr was not from the Twilight Zone, although he did give me a cursory stare for a moment longer than he should have. Kind of like, "where did you come from and why are you so interested in my poster of the inner sinus cavity?'. K went first (very out of character!) and had her nose cauterized because of excessive nose bleeds. She was feeling pretty fine and brave by the time I got in the old chair. She thought it was HYSTERICAL that when the guy put the light in one side of my nose, you could see it out the other. Then he showed her how he could make my nose blink like Rudolphs. I love a Dr with a sense of humor, especially when he has a long snakey tube up into my sinus. I think I saw her slip him a fiver after.

We high tailed it out of there back into present day as quick as we could. We stopped at Friendly's for an ice cream and it took us about 1/2 hour at the takeout window (in February) which put us right back into reality. Phew.

Sundays in My City

Unknown Mami

Unknown Mami sponsors Sundays in My City. From what I understand, you take pictures of your town and put them into a post on Sundays. I thought I would give it a try, since um HELLO, Cape Cod is beautiful.

Last Sunday, I went for a walk on the beach. Being a predominantly summer area, lots of houses are boarded up for the winter.

This is an egg sac for conchs. (Don't pronounce the ch, pronounce it k)

This is part of a conch shell.

The imprint on the left is a seagull foot print. The purple part on the shell is called wampum. Back in the day, the Native Americans used that as money.

This is a (dead) baby horseshoe crab. They are very prehistoric in nature.

So there you have it, Sunday at Forest Beach! Check it out!

Frag'n Friday!

Mommy's Idea

Fridays are fragment days according to Mrs. 4444's. So, when it comes to her, I frag as I am told! Technically this is being posted on Saturday, shhh, don't tell on me.

*I passed a hotel called the John Edwards Hotel today. Huh. This struck me as funny for some reason. Like, he can't be president so now he owns a hotel. Do they have hourly rates? Sorry, just me being mean.

*The Women of Fishing Families is having it's second annual Mustachio Bashio. Guys sign up clean shaven and a month later come back and flash their stash. Some of the guys really got into it last year and dressed in character to try and win the big prize. I went and ordered the tshirts today. Some of you got emails from me begging for a slogan. We wound up with "Eat, drink and be hairy" for the guys shirt and "Eat, drink and love hairy" for the women's shirts. Overall, not a big fan of the 'stash, but it is an amusing way to pass a month of the winter. It's funny to see the guys walking around town trying to grow hair!

*Has anyone had their eyebrows threaded? A friend of mine LOVES it, but I am not convinced. I think just seeing people have it done in the middle of the mall is yucky. She asked her son if he wanted to have his chin threaded and he said, "No Mom, I do not want to have my chin threaded at the mall." There's a sentence I never thought I would hear.

*Hallie (at Wonderful World of Wieners) could use some uplifting this week. Her oldest son is being deployed this weekend and she is a wee bit stressed out. Love you, Hallie!

*It's snowing, but not like what the DC area is getting! Thankfully we are on the edge of the storm. I like snow for Christmas, but by February, I am looking forward to spring.

*Going to a Superbowl party tomorrow night. I actually love watching the commercials, especially if the Patriots are not playing. I am in charge of dessert, so I am off to see if I can get creative with footballs.

Happy Weekend!

Big is Now BIGGER!

Business 2 Blogger

3 very smart bloggers have created a new site for bloggers that want to go big and for businesses that want to go bigger. Since I am going "big time" (in my own mind anyway), I thought this was a perfect opportunity to join them. I am holding them responsible (not really you guys, don't worry) to get me something to write about on my review blog. Go ahead and check them out! They are also on Facebook.

8 more days until the opening ceremonies for the winter Olympics! Thanks to Justine, I realized that a lot of you may not know about my past as a competitive ski racer. Yes, my dream was to be in the Olympics. So for a few posts during the next week, I will be schooling you in alpine skiing. You will be very popular at cocktail parties when you can explain the difference between slalom and giant slalom. You can thank me later.

Going Big Time

I am trying to go big time with my blog. Haha. Yes, that is what the 6th sinus infection of the season will do for you. Lots of time with my computer lately. So, you may notice that I started with changing my picture. I have also started a review blog (www.ascapecodreviews.blogspot.com), although I need something to review. I made a page for ascapecodturns on facebook, so come on over and fan me. Yup, I am big time. Basically I am just following along Melisa with one S' bread trail. She is my mentor. I guess that means I will be having my own livestream show soon too. Does anyone want to be my partner in that? She and Weaselmomma are quite the comedic team. They have a show this Friday actually.

Let's see, who would be best to have as a show cohost?

*I could have the Gorton's Fisherman. He could give out the weather reports for the fishermen of Cape Cod. He could tell people what the fish of the day was. He could do a cooking segment on how to cook fish sticks.

*I could have one of my girls. Then you would get the tween update on Cape Cod. The latest fashion for middle schoolers, the schedule of events for the weekends and what you should be doing for homework.

*I could have one of the guys from the Ocean Spray Cranberry commercials. They are pretty funny and could show you around the best bogs of Cape Cod. That may be an unknown fact to my midwest friends, that Cape Cod is home to many hundreds of cranberry bogs.

*I could have Gretel. Then you would know the best beaches to let your dog run on, the best places for your dog to "do it's business" and the latest and greatest in dog treats.

Well, Melisa and Weaselmomma, I don't think you have to worry quite yet. Obviously I have to go through many audition tapes before I chose my co-host. I might have to come out to Chicago and be a guest host on your show for practice. Or maybe you could do a show on location on Cape Cod. I'll get the Gorton's Fisherman, just say when.
