Things That Make You Go Hmmmmm....

Sometimes things happen in the world that make you think, hmmmm..... some times these things happen in clusters. Let's review this week so far...

*Ricky Martin is gay. Seriously, is anyone surprised about this?

*I had lunch at Friendly's today and didn't have to wait hours for my food.

*Friendly's was empty, yet the waitress sat the other 2 groups on either side of us.

*An appt. I had today actually happened on time and I was early. (This is probably the most surprising.)

*My sister sent me a recipe about cooking salmon in the dishwasher. You wrap it in tin foil (a few times) and can even wash your dishes while you "cook it". Um ewww!

*I dropped off my "babies" to babysit a friends' 3 year olds the other night! When did my babies get big enough to BE the babysitter?

Have you had any hmmmm? moments this week?

Sundays in My City

Unknown Mami

I went to Sturbridge Village this week as a chaperone with the 5th grade. It is not on Cape Cod, as a matter of fact, it is 2 and 1/2 hours away. It is a village that portrays life in 1830. The people that work there dress in character and talk about life way back when. Enjoy some of the scenes from this pretty village...

Happy Sunday!

Frag'n Friday!

Mommy's Idea

Friday Frags by Mrs. 4444s where you can get all your thoughts out by tipping your head to the side and tapping the top of your head while hopping on one foot. You know, similar to when you have water in your ears....

*Today was a great day because it was my birthday. A Facebook page is a wonderful thing to have when you have your birthday. I had wishes from so many people from every part of my life, it was amazing!

*I got to go as a chaperone with B's class to Sturbridge Village. It rained, snowed and was sunny! See, there I go again talking about the weather. We had a blast!

B tried on some of the 1830's fashion.... Don't think they had Aeropostale back then, but she's always been one to rock any look and make it her own.

I offered to buy my group bonnets, but they wouldn't promise to wear them for the rest of the day.

By the end of the day, they were exhausted and fell asleep in the old school room.

*I am loving my nannying gig. You forget how much wonder and innocence there is wrapped up in a 2 year old.

*It is fun watching American Idol, especially since Sioban is from Cape Cod! The girls and I have never watched a whole season until this one. Yes, I know, shame on me. Of course, now I have 2 divas aiming to get on American Idol when they are 16.

Happy Weekend! :)

How To Be a Great Date (circa 1980's)

I found a page of a magazine that I had torn out way back when with bullet points on how to be a great date. I am pretty sure I was insecure in my dating talents back then, so I must have saved it thinking it would be of some assistance. Now that I am almost technically back in the dating pool, I think some of these points will come in handy....

*Pretend he's Henry Kissinger and you're Barbara Walters-then interview him.

*Don't style and spritz hair to the point of stiffness- men like to touch soft tresses.

*Never complain (the chops are over cooked, the movie was awful).

*Order dessert- a lusty appetite is sexy.

*At the table, be a little geishalike- butter his roll, put the sugar alongside his coffee.

*Don't brag about your ancestors.

*Be flamboyantly amused by his witty asides.

*Give him a tiny present (really tiny, like a funny button).

Yeah, with these tips, I think I will do great.

Or NOT!

Dear Mommy,

I realize I missed Friday Frags and Sundays in my City this weekend. Blame it on the weather! Funny, right? (see the last post) Well it was just so damn beautiful the past 4 days, I was hardly near my computer! I was cleaning stuff out though and found this very profound letter I wrote to my mom. Here it is, complete with spelling errors. I must have been around 10 when I wrote this....

Mommy,
Please don't be mad. I don't no if it's us or if it's cause of your period, or both. When your mad you make me sad.
Love, Susan

I can only imagine what the 3 of us were up too....

Whether or Not You Like the Weather...

What do people, who live in a place like Aruba, talk about? Practically every day the weather is 86 degrees, sunny with a strong wind. Sounds like Manic Mommy is finding the same type of phenomenon in Arizona this week. The same weather every day.

However, New Englanders have the weather changing every 5 minutes.

You walk into the Post Office, "Mighty wet out there today!".

A bunch of mom's waiting to pick the kids up from school, "When, oh, when will the sun come out?".

My MIL calling from Florida, "How's the weather?".

The weather is the main common ground people have when starting a conversation. We complain about it, celebrate it, curse it and can become very animated about it. How do people in static weather states start a conversation? Do they actually talk about things that bother them? Do they talk about the fluctuating prices at the grocery store? Maybe they discuss their undergarments.

"Hey dude, what's up?"

"Actually my arthritis is flaring up, I need to mow my lawn again, my wife spent too much at the grocery store for the 8th week in a row, and these tightie whities are a little snug!"

Hmmm, yeah, maybe talking about the weather isn't so bad.

Mmmmm Cake!

I love my sister in law. She is one of my best friends. She's always there when I need her. She has 3 great boys. We all live in the same town. She is talented at many things, but she is not crazy about baking like I am. When the boys were little, I would often make their birthday cakes or cupcakes for school. She makes a delicious bundt cake, but somehow she was never comfortable with cake mix and frosting.

The other day, my 13 year old nephew called and asked if he could bake a cake at my house.

"Um, sure C. I am always up for making a cake. Do you have a mix or frosting?"

"Yes, I have a mix," he assured me.

So B and I went to pick him up. He was very excited, to say the least. He is looking at the box, telling me that some words are in Spanish and English and then he looks at the expiration date.

"That's probably not good, right?"

Not the Time to Laugh

Why is it that when you are in a place(let's say funeral) you get the urge to laugh? Why do the funniest things need to happen in a place where you shouldn't enjoy them? For all you over 40, you may remember the Mary Tyler Moore show and this particular Chuckle's Funeral episode. About 3 minutes, Mary starts to lose it....

Yesterday, I was in one of those instances, where laughing was NOT a good idea. However, the man singing behind me was very loud and unfortunately very tone deaf. I do not think I sing well, but I do know that I do not sing anywhere near how this man sang. I give him credit for belting it out, but because of this, I couldn't sing for fear of bursting out laughing.

One poor woman passed out during a prayer.

At one of the songs, when we stood up, a woman had a tissue plastic wrapper stuck to her butt.

This is crap I wait for in a normal day. I think when I see something funny happen, "oh boy, I can't wait to blog about this." It puts me in an uncomfortable position when these things happen at a very serious "assembly". I am wanting to laugh, but at the same time wanting to cry.

I have always related to Mary Tyler Moore and this sealed the deal for me. Where was my friend, Rhoda, when I needed her?

Sundays in My City

Unknown Mami

I was able to work with a friend of mine who is an amazing floral designer last weekend on a rare Cape Cod winter wedding. It was just so nice seeing and smelling flowers! Spring can't be too far away!

frag'n Friday!

Mommy's Idea

It's that time of the week where we put all our thoughts together like pieces in a puzzle.

*Why do my kids look like they are walking into a slaughter house when I drop them off at school? Wouldn't you love to watch kids skip and laugh on their way in to school? I guess it would look too much like the movies if that were the case.

*I videoed the girls pretending to do jumprope tricks. B's was hysterical because she farted in the middle of it and kept going while saying, "Ooops, sorry, I farted". I couldn't ruin her rep and put that on youtube for the world to see. (Even though she wanted me to.)

*It has been a tough week in the middle school here. A father of 2 middle schoolers committed suicide. That has brought on many conversations that none of us wanted to explain to our kids at this age. Because our school is so small, everyone knows everyone.

*I got this lovely award from Evansmom and I neglected to put it up on my blog! Whoops. I love it because it is so bright and cheery. Go check out Evansmom if you haven't, she is worth it! I am suppose to list 12 people to give this too, but I am a rule breaker and would prefer you all to have it. I know, the bloggy police will probably put me in detention.

*[sunshine+award.jpg]

*The FDA Commissioner's name is Dr. Hamburg. Really, could that be more perfect? She was talking about a food recall today.

*Justine asked me in one of my skiing posts about why my dad was so tan. My dad is like and East Coast George Hamilton. The man will lay out in the garage in the winter to get some sun (without wind). He loves spring skiing just for the tanning and reflecting opportunities. Does he use lotion? Well kinda. He has always used the orange paste Ban de Soleil. It has about a 4SPF and is ridiculously hard to find now. Hmmm, I do love the smell of it though!

*Oh, one last thing. I signed up for Blogher in NYC. Anyone else?

Happy weekend!

What I have learned....

Things I have learned this week....

* Days can really fly by some weeks.

* I haven't lost my knack at relating to 2 year olds. (I started nannying one very cute boy this week)

* My shoulder can still do the back seat reach. (As related to 2 yr old dropping books)

* The playgroup I once took the girls to, is just as great now.

* Do not volunteer for the talent show next year that is not even in your kids' school, no matter how much you like seeing the other kids perform. (It takes a lot, lot, lot of time)

* Weathermen lie.

* I am very ready for spring.

* I would be rich if I got a quarter for every time I thought about writing my blog.

* It's a bad idea to give your husband's old cell phone number to your daughter and not tell all his friends. (Naked pictures are NOT something an 11 year old wants to see.)

I still have 2 1/2 days to learn more this week. Watch out!
