If you have any interest in football, you know that the Patriots are playing the Seahawks on February 1 in the Superbowl. You probably also know about "deflategate". This has been a hot topic of conversation in our house this week.
"Why would the Patriots be stupid enough to deflate the balls?"
"Can't the officials tell if the balls are deflated?"
"Some teams actually over-inflate their balls."
All this talk about balls has brought us to the maturity level of 13 year old boys. This morning's conversation...
Bobby, "Did you hear that 11 of 12 balls were actually deflated?"
Me, "Yes, I did."
Bobby, "They don't know if they came out of the locker room deflated or someone deflated them on the sideline. Also, the kicker actually has his balls delivered to the field still wrapped."
Me, "The kicker gets his balls wrapped?"
Bobby, "Well, yes."
Me, "Who unwraps his balls? Why does he need new balls every time? Why is he so special that his balls are delivered to him nicely wrapped? Or wait! What if he forgets to bring his balls?"
Bobby, "um....haha"
Me, "Well what happens if his balls are over-inflated? Squishy balls are easier to hold and throw, but are hard balls easier to kick?"
This is a direct effect of living in a house of teenagers.
Also, if you haven't seen this spoof, it's a must watch....

Grandstanding
Grandstanding: to behave or speak in a way that is
intended to impress people and to get public
approval.
Grandstanding is often what football players do after they make a great play or score a touchdown. A little bit of grandstanding is fun to watch, especially if the game is really close. Grandstanding becomes obnoxious when the score is 52-6 and the team who has 52 is still dancing in the end zone after yet another touchdown.
We got to thinking last night about grandstanding in other venues.
Ice-cream shop: "Yes! I got a $5 tip! That's right, I rock. Bring it baby," while waving around the ice-cream scoop.
A bar: "OMG that is the BEST martini I have ever had! Those olives are UNBELIEVABLE!" Of course the person is standing on the bar while shouting this.
Teaching: The teacher walking down the hall with a quiet line of Kindergartners (I am sure it could be possible.) "That's right principal! This is the best line ever! You know it !"(chest bumps principal and then runs down the line high fiving all the students)
Grocery Store: Saving $50 on a $200 bill. Grabbing the store microphone, doing a moon walk and repeating "I am a SUPER SAVER!!!"
I wonder if football players, when they are showing film to their grandchildren, look back on their grandstanding as cool or embarrassing?

Soupy
So, today I did a million things like every mom out there.
Some things I did OK, other things I could improve on.
Fine, I could improve on a lot...
I didn't do anything exceptional until I was a baseball game tonight.
One of the boys had a baseball game and I went and watched some of it. His brother said, "Hey Sue, Dad, catch this." And because I was paying attention or I was looking for stardom, I paid attention. He threw me a football with a nice spiral and I caught it. That's right. I caught it looking like it was no big deal.
Then, I threw it back to him.
And it spun in a tight spiral.
And I was right back in High School quarterbacking my Junior Powder Puff football team.
Ah, those were the days.....

G six, Cheese Stick, Cheese Head: It's All Good
For the record, I am a huge Patriots fan and having their season end too soon was very, very sad. I will say I was glad to see the Jets lose yesterday just because they are the Jets (sorry Patty).
However, I may have to root for the Packers in the Superbowl because I love this song. The funny thing is that when I first heard the song "G six", I thought they were singing "cheese stick". Yeah, I know, nothing like singing a song at the top of your lungs in the shower only to be told by embarrassed teenagers that you are singing the wrong words.
The kids in this video seem to have gotten something right! (Thanks Mrs. 4444s for bringing this to my attention!)

Superbowl Sunday
It is Superbowl Sunday, but it also communion Sunday at our church. This happens the first Sunday of every month. DH and K went horseback riding and B and I went to church. She comes into my room completely decked out and informs me that I need to look good for church today. Not normal good, but extra fancy. I wonder why and she says because she is and that's that. OK, so I put on nylons which I haven't had on since a Christmas party mid December. That's always fun. I throw on a dress instead of my usual black pants and she approves of the outfit. Phew!
She calls communion "snack time". We go through 1/2 the service, she goes to Sunday school and comes back for "snack time". You have never seen a kid so happy for a teeny piece of white bread and grape juice. She watches the minister break the big loaf of bread and whispers to me that she wishes she could have a chunk of that. Then she says"Oh no...it's pumpernickel" like it's poison. I say, "No I think it is wheat". So the congregation does not get that bread anyway, they get the cut Wonder white bread in neat little (teeny tiny) squares. In our congregation, the bread gets passed out, then we eat it all together, then the juice and we drink that all together. So here is our conversation while we are suppose to be praying or thinking about Jesus.
me "Remember, just one piece not a handful."
B "I think I know, I've done this a thousand times." (She has done this no more than 10 times)
B "My bread is stale."
me "Mine too."
B " But I want to roll mine in a little ball. K says that the bread is always stale that's why she doesn't like communion."
me trying to pay attention
B "I just had a little taste." "Look that kid up there got a chunk of the wheat! No fair!" (That kid up there is the alter boy).
me, starting to get the giggles..... we get to eat our bread.
me, giggling, "Mine is stuck in my teeth."
B "Mine is stuck in my apparatus." Now we are both giggling.
They start to serve the juice. B is practically levitating she is so excited. If K were there she would get 2 juices because K doesn't like grape juice. We take our little cup of juice.
B "Hey, these are new glasses because they are not glass, they are plastic." Then she starts sniffing her juice and saying "mmmmmmm". I have to take her glass out of her hands because I am sure she is going to spill it.
We all get to drink. B licks the glass clean. I am shaking and trying not to laugh at this point. She is fully laughing. The minister gets a large mug (sorry I don't know the official name of it) for his sip.
B " I hope David enjoys his big hunk of bread and his beer!"
At this point I am looking away from her trying not to burst out laughing. Tears are rolling down my face.
I think with her having the flu and being home all last week, she has either forgotten how to act in society or we have been spending way too much time together!
Now we are ready for stage 2 of the day.... the Pats game. We are all comfy in our Pats gear and have enough snacks to feed the team! Maybe I should have gotten extra Wonder bread and grape juice?
